A fare basis code is the full tariff code on a ticket, encoding promotions, validity and restrictions on top of the fare class letter.
Also called: Fare basis.
How it works#
The code consists of the fare class plus trailing characters for conditions such as minimum stay, season, round-trip requirement or promotional discount. It is the key to the full fare rules and therefore to any question about changes, refunds and mileage earning. On a booking confirmation it usually sits in small print beside the route, where travellers overlook it.
Not to be confused with#
A fare basis code is not the same as the ticket price: identical prices can come from different fare bases carrying very different rights.
