# What is Lounge access?

Lounge access is the right to use a catered waiting area at an airport, obtained through cabin class, status, a card, a membership or a walk-up payment.

Also called: Airport lounge access.

## How it works #

Each of those routes carries its own rules on guests, time windows and terminals, and they frequently contradict each other. Access also applies to a specific lounge rather than to every lounge in a terminal. Refusals are almost never arbitrary: they come from capacity rules, the wrong terminal, or an access route that this airport does not recognise.

## Not to be confused with #

Lounge access is not the same as a seat in the lounge: nearly every operator reserves the right to turn eligible travellers away when the lounge is full.
