# What is Mattress run?

A mattress run is a hotel booking made purely to collect nights towards a status tier, without any need for the stay itself.

Also called: Status night.

## How it works #

The maths mirrors a mileage run: the cost of the nights against the cash value of what the status actually delivers next year. Programmes make it harder with revenue thresholds, minimum rates and by excluding cheap rates from earning. An honest calculation values breakfast, upgrades and points at what they realistically save, not at rack rate.

## Not to be confused with #

A mattress run is not the same as a status challenge: a challenge lowers the threshold for a period, a mattress run meets the normal threshold artificially.
