A misconnection is missing an onward flight because the previous one ran late; the legal consequences depend on whether both flights sit on one ticket.
A misconnection is missing an onward flight because the previous one ran late; the legal consequences depend on whether both flights sit on one ticket.
Also called: Missed connection.
How it works#
On a through ticket the airline owes re-routing to the final destination and care during the wait, and compensation may follow from the delay on arrival. On separate tickets none of those duties exist, because the second contract has no legal connection to the delay on the first.
Not to be confused with#
A misconnection is not the same as a cancellation: the onward flight operates, simply without the passenger who could not reach it.
