# What is New Distribution Capability?

New Distribution Capability is a data standard letting airlines send offers directly to sellers rather than distributing them only through legacy systems.

Also called: NDC.

## How it works #

Travellers notice it in two places: offers can differ by sales channel because the airline assembles price and extras individually, and changes can fail because an agency cannot service the record. Where that happens, the agency points to the airline and the airline points back to the agency.

## Not to be confused with #

New Distribution Capability is not the same as booking direct: offers sold through intermediaries can follow the standard too.

## In German #

The German term is Neuer Vertriebsstandard. [German version of this term](/de/glossar/neuer-vertriebsstandard)
