Points plus cash is a redemption format in which part of the price is settled with points and the remainder with money.
Also called: Cash and points, Co-pay.
How it works#
The cash portion works out as buying points at the programme’s own rate, and that rate is nearly always below what the same points achieve in a straight redemption. The format therefore pays off in two situations only: the balance falls just short of a full award, or the mixed booking is refundable when the full award is not.
Not to be confused with#
Points plus cash is not the same as the taxes and fees on an award ticket: those are charged on top and cannot be replaced with points.
