A redeemable mile is the spendable mile in a frequent flyer programme, the balance that pays for flights, upgrades and other awards.
A redeemable mile is the spendable mile in a frequent flyer programme, the balance that pays for flights, upgrades and other awards.
Also called: Award mile.
How it works#
It sits in the same account as the qualifying mile but follows a different logic: redeemable miles stay until spent or expired, while qualifying miles reset with the qualification period. How many redeemable miles a flight earns depends in most programmes on ticket price and fare class rather than on distance flown.
Not to be confused with#
A redeemable mile is not the same as an elite qualifying mile: one pays for an award, the other only counts towards a tier.
