A ticket number is the thirteen-digit identifier of an issued flight ticket and the proof that a booking has been paid for and ticketed.
Also called: E-ticket number.
How it works#
The first three digits name the issuing airline and decide who handles refunds and reissues. Without a ticket number there is a reservation but no right to travel, a distinction that matters in airline failures, card disputes and retroactive mileage claims. It appears on the booking confirmation and in the customer account.
Not to be confused with#
A ticket number is not the same as a booking reference: the reference leads to the reservation, the ticket number evidences payment and the issued document.
