A codeshare is a flight sold by one airline under its own flight number while a different airline actually operates it.
A codeshare is a flight sold by one airline under its own flight number while a different airline actually operates it.
Also called: Code-share flight.
How it works#
The selling airline owns the booking, the operating airline owns everything on board: seat pitch, catering, baggage rules and recognition of status benefits all follow it. Mileage earning frequently follows the operator and the fare booked as well. During disruption the operating airline is the contact at the airport, while the selling airline handles the reservation.
Not to be confused with#
A codeshare is not the same as an alliance flight: a codeshare is a specific agreement about one flight number, an alliance a broader grouping of carriers.
