A pre-existing condition is a health issue that existed before cover started or before departure and can limit what a policy pays.
A pre-existing condition is a health issue that existed before cover started or before departure and can limit what a policy pays.
Also called: Existing medical condition.
How it works#
Policies define a look-back period before travel and ask whether the condition was treated, investigated or had its medication changed. Conditions considered stable are covered under some contracts, sudden deteriorations are not. Anyone with a known condition should clarify the point in writing before booking, because after a claim only the file matters.
Not to be confused with#
A pre-existing condition is not the same as a blanket exclusion: cover can remain in place and fall away only for that particular condition.
