A single reservation is a journey whose sectors sit on one booking, which is the precondition for passenger rights to cover the whole route.
A single reservation is a journey whose sectors sit on one booking, which is the precondition for passenger rights to cover the whole route.
Also called: Through booking.
How it works#
Delay claims turn on arrival at the final destination of the booking, not on the delay of one sector, and that presupposes one reservation. When two sectors sit on separate reservations, every entitlement restarts at zero even if the same airline operates both flights. The giveaway is a single booking reference covering all sectors.
Not to be confused with#
A single reservation is not the same as buying two tickets at once: two booking references remain two journeys in law.

- Separate tickets: Separate tickets are two independent bookings covering one journey with a connection, where no airline is responsible for the transfer between them.
- Misconnection: A misconnection is missing an onward flight because the previous one ran late; the legal consequences depend on whether both flights sit on one ticket.
- Re-routing: Re-routing is the airline’s obligation after disruption to get the passenger to the booked final destination, if necessary by another route.
