Split ticketing means dividing a journey into several separate tickets because the sum of the parts costs less than the through booking.
Also called: Ticket splitting.
How it works#
The saving comes from revenue management: price levels are steered separately for each sector, so two cheap sectors can undercut one through fare. The cost is the loss of through-ticketing protection, since these are separate tickets with all that follows for connections, baggage and rebooking. Unlike hidden-city ticketing, it breaches no conditions of carriage.
Not to be confused with#
Split ticketing is not the same as hidden-city ticketing: with split tickets every booked flight is actually taken, with a hidden-city ticket one deliberately is not.
