A status challenge is a time-limited offer to earn status by completing a reduced number of flights or nights within a short window.
Also called: Elite challenge.
How it works#
A challenge compresses the usual qualification period into a few months and lowers the threshold at the same time. Fail it and the effort is lost: the trips count only towards normal earning and the status never arrives. It therefore makes sense only when the travel is happening anyway, otherwise flights get bought to reach a result that could have been had more cheaply.
Not to be confused with#
A status challenge is not the same as regular qualification: the challenge runs in its own shorter window with its own thresholds.
