An alternative dispute resolution body is a recognised organisation that settles disputes between travellers and providers out of court, usually free for the traveller.
Also called: Conciliation body, ADR body.
How it works#
It normally requires that the airline was contacted first and either refused or failed to reply. The proposed settlement does not bind the traveller, so the courts stay open. Limitation periods are suspended while the case runs, which makes conciliation the low-risk step before lawyers or claim agencies get involved.
Not to be confused with#
A dispute resolution body is not the same as the national enforcement body: the enforcement body supervises compliance with the regulation, conciliation settles the individual case.
