A one-way award is a redemption flight booked in a single direction, with no return flight on the same ticket.
A one-way award is a redemption flight booked in a single direction, with no return flight on the same ticket.
Also called: One-way redemption.
How it works#
Many programmes price an outbound and a return as two separate segments, so a one-way award costs exactly half of a round trip and can be combined freely with another programme, a cash ticket or a different route home. Some programmes or fare types still require a round trip or charge a premium for one-ways. The award chart of each programme states which rule applies.
Not to be confused with#
A one-way award is not an open jaw: an open jaw has two flights with a differing departure or arrival city, a one-way has a single flight.

- Award chart: An award chart is a published price list stating how many miles an award flight costs in a given region and cabin, independent of the cash price of that flight.
