Excess baggage is luggage beyond the allowance, charged by the airline per piece, by weight or by dimensions.
Excess baggage is luggage beyond the allowance, charged by the airline per piece, by weight or by dimensions.
Also called: Extra bag fee, Overweight baggage.
How it works#
Prices differ sharply by when you pay: prepaid online is cheaper almost everywhere than at the desk, and the desk is cheaper than the gate. Overweight charges stack on top of piece charges, and special items such as sports equipment follow their own rates. Elite benefits and co-branded cards often raise the allowance and remove the charge entirely.
Not to be confused with#
Excess baggage is not the same as oversized baggage: oversize concerns dimensions and handling, excess concerns quantity above the allowance.
