What is Premium economy?

Premium economy is a separate cabin between economy and business, with wider seats, more pitch and its own service.

Premium economy is a separate cabin between economy and business, with wider seats, more pitch and its own service.

Also called: Economy plus.

How it works#

The term is used inconsistently: some airlines mean a distinct cabin with a different seat, others use it for economy seats with extra legroom in the same rows. Before booking, only the seat map or aircraft type reveals which one is on offer. For qualifying miles and upgrades, programmes treat premium economy either as its own cabin or as enhanced economy.

Not to be confused with#

Premium economy is not the same as an economy seat with extra legroom: a true cabin has different seats, an extra-legroom row only has more space.
