A special drawing right is an international unit of account used by the IMF, in which baggage liability limits are expressed.
Also called: SDR.
How it works#
The unit bundles several currencies and moves against the euro, so a baggage liability cap is not a fixed sum but converted daily. In practice that means the exact ceiling only emerges on the day of settlement, and published euro figures are always approximations tied to a date.
Not to be confused with#
A special drawing right is not a currency for payments: it serves only as a unit of account for liability limits in international treaties.
