A property irregularity report is the record filed at the airport for missing or damaged baggage and the basis of every later claim.
Also called: PIR, Baggage claim report.
How it works#
It is filed before leaving the arrivals area and carries a file reference used to track the case. Without it a claim is practically unenforceable, because nothing links the damage to the flight. Filing it starts short deadlines for quantifying the loss to the airline in writing.
Not to be confused with#
A property irregularity report is not the same as the claim itself: the report records the incident, the claim quantifies the loss within the deadline.
