What is Montreal Convention?

The Montreal Convention is an international treaty governing airline liability for baggage, delay and personal injury on international journeys.

The Montreal Convention is an international treaty governing airline liability for baggage, delay and personal injury on international journeys.

How it works#

It applies between contracting states and sets liability caps along with deadlines for notifying damage. Liability is strict up to a maximum amount, and beyond that only where fault by the airline is proven. Claims under it exist alongside European passenger rights rather than replacing them.

Not to be confused with#

The Montreal Convention is not the same as the EU passenger rights regulation: the convention governs damages, the regulation flat entitlements during disruption.

In German#
